Chocolate Chip Cookies
There's not much left to say about chocolate chips cookies, except that
there are few desserts that are guaranteed to please everyone, and these are a best bet.
1/3 cup vegetable shortening
1/3 cup butter, softened
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup packed dark brown sugar
1 egg, lightly beaten
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 package (12 oz.) semisweet chocolate chips
Preheat the oven to 375 degrees. In a mixing bowl, cream together the shortening,
butter and sugars until light and fluffy. Blend in the egg and vanilla. In another bowl,
sift together the flour, baking soda and salt. Add the dry ingredients to the butter
mixture and mix until just blended. Add the chocolate chips. Drop tablespoons of dough
onto ungreased cookie sheets about 2 inches apart. Bake 8 to 10 minutes, until light
golden brown. Let cool on a wire rack. Makes 36 cookies.
